Top New York journalist Michelle Deanfield is finally taking a much needed Caribbean vacation. Join her on the white sands amidst the magic of the Mayan culture, steeped in legend and divinity. Not to mention, a good-looking diving instructor in her view. Everything is rosy for Michelle, that is, until the curse strikes and a museum casket goes missing. The natives claim it`s a curse from old spirits, but Michelle sets out to prove otherwise in this Hidden Object game. Will she uncover a network of lies in Mystery Stories: Island of Hope?

Mystery Stories: Island of Hope is one of those hidden object games that with a little more tweaking could have been a standout title in the genre. Although the story is a bit haphazard, it gradually emerges that a Mayan artifact has gone missing and she must search for it with the help of an attractive diving instructor. I finished the game by downloading it on as a "free game of the day". Write a post! Mis-labelling of items. Maybe because of the atmosphere that is present on them? The puzzles look familiar, and even though I am only in the first frames of the game, I recall the womens undergarments too as the other reviewer stated. But I do mind when they are poorly drawn. There are a lot of unique things in the game, like the sound mode and the very deep and lovely animated story. Occasional mini-games, like piecing together a torn document, playing a memory game, or picking a lock, are optional and can be skipped if the player chooses. I do not see the need for that kind of thing in a game that people have said is kid friendly, it certainly had nothing to do with the story line. Provides a unique storyline and various levels. You do get some bonus features, such as a magnifying glass, to help you locates objects you can't find, but overall I felt a high level of frustration with the poor graphics.

Besides the straight-ahead seek-and-find challenges where you search for items from a list, you'll also get to search for more than one of the same type of item, find items by silhouette, search a darkened room using a flashlight to illuminate objects in a small radius, and complete something called "Quick Search," where only one item is shown at a time and you must find it in 30 seconds or less, after which the next item is revealed, and so on. Also, mouse clicks may not work the first time, so may need to click multiple times on object. What I dislike are the fuzzy graphics in the HO scenes. The natives claim it.

  6. The story is advanced through lightly-animated still photographs, with is a nice aesthetic change from the usual comic book-style narration. There are a few ways of playing this game. Interesting, because I did not find this to be the case with Berlin Nights, another game in the Mystery Stories series. Our girl reporter is taking a vacation and gets pulled in to a mystery on a tropical island. I also play games mainly with the sound off so the scenes where you find an item based on sound were annoying to me.
